A former head mistress of Glusburn Primary School, Mrs Winifred Harrison, has died.
Mrs Harrison joined the teaching staff at the school in 1943, and became head six years later.
She retired in 1978 and moved with her husband, Dick, to Badsey near Evesham, Worcestershire.
She returned to this area - to live at Silsden - in the mid 1980s following the death of her husband, but moved to Leicestershire about 10 years ago.
Mrs Harrison was born and brought up in Glusburn, and was herself a pupil at the village school before going to Skipton Girls' Grammar and then Homerton College, Cambridge.
Her first teaching job was at Baildon.
She was a former member, and founder president, of Glusburn Women's Institute.
Mrs Harrison retained fond links with this area, making return visits to see friends and to attend Skipton Girls' reunions.
She was also active in various village organisations at Thurnby, near Leicester, where she lived.
Her funeral service took place in Leicestershire yesterday.
