Two cycling enthusiasts have clocked 60 years together and celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary yesterday.
Harold and Winifred Charnley, of Malsis Road, met in 1938 as members of Keighley Road Club, of which they are now honorary life members.
Mr Charnley, 88, has lived all his life in Keighley and served his apprenticeship with cutting manufacturers Sam Sunderland of Keighley. He later transferred to Shipley when the firm was taken over by J Parkinson and Sons.
His reserved occupation made him exempt from serving during World War II, and he retired in 1979.
Mrs Charnley, 83, moved to Keighley from Newcastle in 1933 and worked at Wolsey's wool mill until the outbreak of war when she served at Prince Smith's munitions factory.
She teamed up with her mother-in-law to run Gill Top general Store at Cowling for 34 years and spent the eight years before retiring as a laundry worker at Malsis School.
Mrs Charnley says: "We met through the club and have both enjoyed being members for a good many years. We cycled all over with them and notched up a hundred years of combined service to the club in 1986."
Since leaving the Keighley Road Club the couple still have many friends there and remained actively involved with it.
They are celebrating their anniversary tonight with friends.
