The Yorkshire Building Society has presented a £2,500 cheque to charity.

The Society, which raised the money from a fashion show, gave the cash to the Liver Unit Trust at St James's Hospital in Leeds.

The money was raised as a thank you to the Trust who successfully treated a member of the Society's staff. The Trust provides support to patients and relatives of liver transplant operations.

It will use the donation to purchase a Dinamap, an electronic blood measurement system.

The charity bash came about after Tony Poolan, who is part of the Society's marketing team, received a liver transplant at Jimmy's 18 months ago.

Ian Kelsey, star of the BBC series Casualty, was at the presentation following the support he received from the Trust after his father's liver transplant six months ago.

The fashion show, which was held just before Christmas, included clothes from Marks & Spencer, George at Asda and Country Casuals.

Iain Cornish, of the Society and fashion show model, said: "When Tony was at St James it was obvious that the care and support that both he and his family received were second to none."

Yorkshire Building Society is the third biggest society with 131 branches throughout the UK.

The Yorkshire's Charitable Foundation helped 500 good causes last year, donating more than £400,000. The unit performs around 120 liver transplants a year, covering patients from Yorkshire, Lancashire and Lincolnshire. There are only five liver units in the UK.
