A family has made an emotional plea for a father of three to get in touch with them - 14 months after he went missing from his home in a tent.

Paul Jefferson has not been seen or heard from since February last year, when he abandoned the tent where he had lived in woodland next to scenic Ponden Reservoir on moorland above Keighley.

The 39-year-old jobless window fitter left behind some clothing and a hire car.

Now Mr Jefferson's cousin, Caron Callaghan of Hillcrest Road, Thornton, says she and his three children - Andrew, 21, Toni, 14, and Mick, 16 - are desperate to hear from him.

"We have heard nothing from him since he left last February," she said. "We are very concerned.

"I'm sure if something serious had happened to him we would have heard by now, so we think he is still somewhere in the area."

Mrs Callaghan said that shortly before his disappearance, Mr Jefferson had separated from his partner after two years of living together.

"I think that was a contributory factor to him going missing," said Mrs Callaghan.

"But there were other things he was upset about which could have made him take off.

"We are also concerned about his mental health.

"He was very close to his children but he has not even been in touch with them. That's completely out of character."

Mr Jefferson had been living in the tent near the reservoir for several months before he was reported missing.

He still has a house in Foston Lane, Bradford.

Police combed the nearby moorland, a search helicopter was deployed, and divers searched the reservoir.

Mr Jefferson has fair or light brown hair and is 5ft 6in tall.

A Keighley Police spokesman said that Mr Jefferson's missing-person file is still open and that officers are keen to hear from him.

Anyone who has knowledge of him - or Mr Jefferson himself - should contact Keighley Police on (01535) 617059.
