BUDDING sporting stars Rebecca Bailey and Casey Dowthwaite joined hundreds of other youngsters who gave a new school holidy SportsCamp business a flying start.
Keighley & Craven Athletics Club member Will Smith and his partner Paul Ryan set up the camps to give young people something to do during the Easter holidays and were overwhelmed with demand.
"We thought we had the right formula but were very apprehensive after we decided to go ahead with the idea but the response was fantastic. We have had over 370 children taking part in the two weeks of activities during the last two weeks," Will said.
They ran camps at Baildon, Cullingworth and York as well as at the former Bronte Middle School site in Keighley.
Now they are planning to expand in time for the long summer holidays with extra camps being held in Skipton and Ilkley.
"We decided to base the activities on having fun with three activites in the morning coupled with a sports quiz and tournaments in the afternoons.
"The coaches were also made things more interesting for the children by varying the rules of the sports we play to suit the abilities of each group," Will said.
Details of future camps are available by contacting 01756-7193395 or by email at sportcamps@sportkeighley.com.
