DENHOLME Sailing Club is holding an open day this weekend -- and hoping introduce new recruits to the sport.
The club, which is based at Doe Park Reservoir, will be giving visitors free 'taster sessions' when they will be able to take to the water with experienced sailors.
"We want to encourage more people to take up the sport and give them a real flavour of the opportunities available," said the club Commodore Barbara Barraclough.
Sailing has been one of the country's most successful Olympic sports in recent years, picking up a string of medals at the Sydney Games.
This weekend's events will also include a free barbecue and refreshments, with sessions running from 11am to 5pm.
"There will be free sailing for anyone who wants to give it a try with the club providing all safety equipment, but anyone under-14 most be accompanied by an adult," Mrs Barraclough said.
Membership for a full family is just £45 per year and anyone joining the club will also get a free eight-week introduction to sailing course. More experienced sailors can also take the Royal Yacht Association's Level 1 & 2 courses free of charge.
The club is also inviting schools to join with a special joint membership package.
"Anyone who is interested can contact me, or come along to the club on Sunday," Mrs Barraclough said. She can be contacted on 01274-833714, or contact the vice-commodore, Roland Fielden on 01274-49440.
