Armed robbers fled empty-handed after a Post Office worker refused to hand over cash and triggered the in-store alarm.
And detectives believe the foiled gang may have been spotted 'casing out' another potential target just hours earlier.
Two or possibly three raiders burst into Eldwick Post Office brandishing handguns shortly after 2pm yesterday..
A police spokesman said: "They threatened a male employee and demanded cash.
"No money was handed over, the alarm was activated and the suspects ran off."
The were seen jumping into a silver Y-registered car which was parked nearby and driving off in the direction of Bingley.
The spokesman said: "It is believed the same vehicle may have been seen near the Burley-in-Wharfedale Post Office in Station Road at 11.50am the same day. No incident occurred there.
"Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the car in either location."
Anyone with information should contact Keighley Police on (01535) 617083.
