Keighley Cougars 8, Doncaster 52 - The Dragons only breathed fire for 40 minutes but it was enough to destroy the toothless Cougars.

A devastating second-half display by Doncaster's Kiwi Paul Mansson ensured that Keighley's run in the Mickey Mouse Cup was all but over.

The South Yorkshire NFP high-fliers had almost constant possession for a 20-minute spell in the second half to rack up a mighty 52-8 victory.

For the opening 38 minutes at sun-kissed Cougar Park, Keighley looked like a side capable of extending a three-game unbeaten home run.

But coach Gary Moorby blamed a lack of experience in the side for the mauling that followed.

"For most of the first half we went toe-to-toe with a very strong and experienced Doncaster side," said Moorby, the disappointment visible on his face.

"Against players like Marvin Golden, Paul Hanson and Jason Lee, we put in a strong performance and were matching up until the break.

"But another silly try just before half-time and then immediately afterwards saw us fall further and further behind.

"We just couldn't get hold of the ball in the second-half, they were fantastic in possession and there was little we could do."

He said that, despite the club's financial situation, he hoped to bring in a few experienced players in time for the Sheffield game in two weeks.

Giant Jamie Fielden, brother of the Bulls' Stuart, dashed in after just five minutes with Danny Ekis and David Foster clutching at air.

But the Cougars came straight back when Mattie Firth slithered and slipped through four tacklers to slide to the line.

Ashton kicked over to put the home side back in the game.

Referee Nick Oddy may have needed a new pea in his whistle after punishing the visitors 15 times in a scrappy and stop-start opening 40 minutes.

Punching, off-side, holding down, you name it, Doncaster did it.

The Cougars poured towards the line, with powerful runs by Simeon Hoyle, Matthew Steel and Firth creating havoc in the Doncaster ranks.

Skipper James Rushforth also played a strong game as the Cougars pushed for the points. But a fluffed drop-goal and two missed penalties, alongside only one converted one, ensured that the Cougars couldn't push past eight points. But with the interval approaching, Peter Green sneaked over from acting-half to turn the game.

The second period was all Doncaster, or more precisely, all Mansson.

His vision and running created scoring opportunities for Richard Baker, Marvin Golden, Peter Edwards, Tony Atler and Craig Lawton (twice) to dash over the whitewash.
