Teenagers leaving school this year will face massive job problems, Bradford careers office has warned. And for 90 per cent of the youngsters, who will have no GCE "0" level passes, vacancies will be even thinner on the ground. Mr. Derek Hooper, Bradford's principal careers officer, said: "There has ben a big reduction in the number of apprenticeships available, and youngsters who do find work may well have to settle for a second or third choice."

Volunteers from the Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Boys' Brigades and other youth organisations in Bradford are to be asked by the Corporation Libraries Committee to do a regular "good deed" for lonely old people in the city. The committee yesterday agreed in principle to a new service sending library books to infirm old people who are living alone.
