Eccleshill 4, Liversedge 1 - Eccleshill stormed to victory in the big derby against Liversedge at Plumpton Park last night after the visitors were reduced to ten men early in the second half.
Liversedge were the dominant side in the first half and had a goal lead at the break, but United bounced back with a dominating second-half display.
Sedge were spurred by the fact that they could have gone above their neighbours in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division with a win, and broke the deadlock midway through the first period.
Matty Flynn was initially credited with the goal that stemmed from a long throw-in on the left, but centre back Richard Walker later laid claim to the strike.
Liversedge then had Adam Goldthorpe red-carded after two bookings and assisted United as Rob Morris diverted the equaliser in off his shin in the 58th minute.
Just four minutes later, the home side snatched the initiative when James Cou-borough netted with a first-time shot from a Dave Elvidge cross.
The visitors pushed forward as they chased the game but left gaps at the back, and United exploited that well with two late goals to run out comfortable winners. Elvidge chipped in from the edge of the area in the 78th minute and four minutes from time James Russell controlled a long punt forward and rounded Liversedge keeper Paddy Kerr to score.
"We gave away a sloppy goal, but they deserved to be in front at that time," said joint United boss Martin Pattison.
"It was another Jekyll and Hyde performance from us because we gave them a rollicking at half-time and played some super football in the second half. Jamie Buchan was outstanding in midfield for us."
Liversedge boss Wayne Bruce was distraught at the referee's display and claimed the sending off changed the complexion of the game.
"Adam was sent off for two laughable yellow cards," he said. "A bit of verbal and a supposed obstruction. We were 1-0 up at the time, but we were up against it after that for almost the whole of the second half. We went to pot for five minutes and let them get back into the game. At 2-1 down we had to go for it, and they ran in two goals late on."
Thackley took a share of the spoils at Sheffield, but were unfortunate not to have a better return after edging the goalless draw.
First-half chances for Danny Toronczak and James March (twice) went begging as Darren Bonnington in the Sheffield goal stood firm. Sheffield hit back and the frame of Richard Cornwall's goal denied them twice.
Farsley Celtic's revival in UniBond League Division One hit a dead end as they went down 2-1 at Spennymoor United, despite the home side playing the entire second half with ten men.
Anthony Lee put the North Easteners in front after 18 minutes, but was dismissed on the stroke of half-time for violent conduct.
Celtic had brief hope of a result that would confirm their continuing UniBond status when Chris Newton netted a 68th- minute penalty, but even a point escaped them as the home side's ten men snatched a win through Stephen Bell five minutes from time.
