A couple driven to distraction by an enormous mound of rubble outside their home said they are still waiting for Bradford Council to clean up its act - and the rubbish.

Terence and Barbara Binns claim their home in Saffron Drive, Allerton, has been ruined by the mounds created by the Council to deter gipsies and joyriders.

They were promised swift action by the Council after the Telegraph & Argus reported that the mounds were moving ever closer to the front door.

It was also said that steps would be taken to make the site less of an eyesore.

But six weeks on, the couple, who are in their 60s, said that nothing had been done at all.

Mr Binns said: "It's worse than ever.

"If everyone came to see it and took away a handful of the rubble there would be nothing left.

"But in the meantime we are seeing more and more cars dumped and set alight and the site being used as magnet for youngsters fighting on the mound."

Mrs Binns, 60, said: "It was absolutely diabolical. It was just like what is happening in the Middle East with gangs stoning each other.

"I was petrified and there were stones strewn around the front garden.

"I am at my wit's end. I don't know what to do.

"Just because we have bought our Council house it is as if they have washed their hands of us.

"We have had three cars set alight here. You call the police but they don't arrive until its too late. Meanwhile we have to live with it."

A Council spokesman said: "We are in negotiation with contractors and expect to start seeding and any other work that may be needed, such as adding topsoil, in the very near future.

"Our Tenancy Enforcement team is also continuing to work with the Police and the local community to try to stop joyriders abusing this area."
