Police were today quizzing five men following reports of a gun being fired in a Bradford street.
Teams of officers, supported by the force's helicopter and an armed response unit, were scrambled to the Bradford Moor area of the city at around 8.45pm.
A police spokesman said they conducted a thorough search of the area following the report of a firearm being discharged at a property.
He said that within minutes of being alerted, officers had stopped a suspect car close to the scene of the alleged shooting and questioned its occupants.
The spokesman added that as a result of the operation, officers arrested five people inside the car and recovered a firearm.
They were today being detained and questioned by detectives from the Bradford North police division about the incident.
Nobody was injured and a full police inquiry has been launched, added the spokesman.
He added that officers were today appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact Bradford North Police on (01274) 375059.
