A well-known member of the Keighley community has praised firefighters for saving his family home.
Nick Lajszczuk says the quick actions of a fire crew from Keighley saved his house in Raynham Crescent after his car exploded in a ball of flames.
The Volvo 440, which caught fire in the early hours of Saturday morning, was just four feet away from the front door of the house.
Mr Lajszczuk, who is chairman of Keighley Ukrainian Association, says: "The first thing we knew about it was at 5am when the smoke alarm in the house went off.
"The car was well ablaze and smoke was coming in through the front door, so we had to use the back door to get out of the house because it wasn't safe at the front.
"The fire service dealt with the problem very efficiently, and if it hadn't been for them the fire could easily have spread to the house.
"The car is completely burnt out and it has caused smoke damage to the front of the house and melted our security lights.
"I have absolutely no idea how it started, but it's unlikely to be an electrical fault because the car hadn't been used for some hours.
"We are looking into how it possibly could have happened."
One fire crew turned out from Keighley station, and firefighters did not rule out the possibility of an arson attack.
