THE highest ever monthly rainfall in 31 years of recording fell in Upper Wharfedale in February.
The previous highest monthly rainfall total was 14.02 inches in December 1986, but Arncliffe records show that 18.44 inches fell in February. The average for the month in the village is just 8.72 inches.
On one day, in the 24 hours to 8am on February 10, 3.44 inches fell and the recorders believe more than three inches has never been recorded before.
Kettlewell fared slightly better - but 15.9 inches still fell during the month.
