Pupils at Nab Wood School in Cottingley had the chance to quiz children's author Jamila Gavin, during a visit to the school.
The author, pictured with some of the pupils, also read extracts from her many books and spoke to the children about her work.
Born in India, to an Indian father and an English mother, she moved to England when she was 12 and began writing children's books following the birth of her own children.
"There are now many more children in Britain like mine, who come from mixed backgrounds," she said. "I felt that there were not enough books about children like them. So I started to write books about characters who had similar experiences to them."
