The Worth Valley Bowling League gets under way tomorrow with preliminary rounds in the Valley Cup, all played on neutral venues.
Qualifiers play the first round on May 25 while the losers play in the Supplementary Cup on the same day. Holders Cross Roads A meet lowly Oakworth B at Highfield.
Draw (venue in brackets): Bradshaw A v Haworth (Denholme); Sutton B v Highfield A (Cross Hills); Steeton B v Lund A (Keighley); Oakworth A v Lund B (Whins); Whins B v Denholme B (Haworth); Lund C v Craven B (Steeton); Cross Hills B v Cross Hills A (Devon); Bradshaw B v Steeton A (Cross Roads); Oakworth B v Cross Roads A (Highfield); Sutton A v Silsden PF (Craven); Craven A v Cross Roads B (Silsden PF); Whins A v Denholme A (Cullingworth); Cullingworth v Devon (Sutton); Highfield B v Keighley (Oakworth).
The league itself begins on April 20 with Cross Roads A, red hot certainties to win the league yet again. Struggling in this section could be newcomers Bradshaw A, Oakworth A and Whins A. Sponsors are Newsholme Manor Hotel and restaurant.
In Division Two (sponsored by Phoenix Trophies) a much closer contest is expected between Steeton A, Denholme A and Cullingworth.
Division Three has new sponsors in Hargreaves Ltd of High Street, Keighley, with likely winners coming from Silsden PF or Bradshaw B.
Each league has a handicap section which will hopefully ensure all clubs have a chance of success.
The league also runs a doubles league on Tuesday evenings with Denholme A again favourites to land the spoils.
The Veterans Section now comprises three leagues with Silsden PF A defending their Division One title and Haworth B and Lund B hoping for another close run in Division Two.
Division Three features newcomers Bradshaw, Craven, Broughton Road and Oakworth who include Doug Street and 'Demon Barker' David Greenwood in their ranks which should ensure re-election only.
The league runs a variety of events throughout the summer and has senior and veteran teams in the Federation of Bowling. News on that later.
The event for the vets are the Burgess Ford and John Holmes Cups which commence on April 22/29.
The Hebden Royd Sunday morning KO continues on Sunday with the first round. Favourites Cross Roads A are through along with Oakworth and Haworth etc.
The Asda Doubles Finals at Highfield commence at 11.30 on Sunday and feature several top class pairings from near and far with serious faces chasing the top cash prizes.
For the expected large crowd, outsider Roy Sanderson and Ben Ridding will provide the entertainment, if in the mood, and show how the game should be played.
