Work has begun on a multi-million pound business and conference centre in the heart of Buttershaw which will create 200 new jobs.

The £6 million Enterprise Park will take 18 months to build but will house 48 businesses, with units ranging from 250 sq ft to 2,000 sq ft, to create much-needed job opportunities. Royds Community Association, which has organised the project, will create a modern conference centre and a training facility constructed from a £3.8 million investment by Yorkshire Forward.

Royds said the park would have countless benefits for the local community.

Tom Dylak, community association chief executive, said: "This new enterprise park will give the local area another economic impetus as it realises a strong and long term future."

A spokesman for Yorkshire Forward said Royds Business Park was the "last piece of the jigsaw that has brought about the social and economic regeneration of the Royds area".

David Scougall, director of the British Urban Regeneration Association, added: "This is a wonderful example of how community organisations such as Royds can help regenerate Bradford, making a real difference for local people."

The derelict site in Bellerby Brow was valued at £550,000 but had been given to Royds by the Council, intent on building upon the association's success.

Some businesses have shown an interest in the project. All profits are expected to be reinvested in Royds.
