Otley 32, Rugby Lions 36: As in the game at Rugby in December, Otley made sufficient errors for the Lions to produce an unexpected National League One win.

Bereft of attacking ideas and with minds elsewhere in defence, Otley made it easy for the visitors who were hovering on the verge of relegation, and their relief at the final whistle made the result almost bearable.

Otley took an early lead when Mark Kirkby successfully chased a Simon Binns kick to score in the corner, and the fly half duly added the conversion, but the Lions soon levelled when winger Eddie Saunders dodged his way through to set up flanker Tristan Posser-Shaw, who went in under the posts, full back Chris Richards converting.

A Binns penalty was soon nullified with a try from winger Peter Roberts, which Richards converted, and he then added a penalty.

That man Binns was soon in evidence again with a second penalty and a drop goal as Otley began to look in charge, but Saunders crossed in the corner for his 100th league try in first-half added time and the conversion put Rugby ahead 24-16.

When Binns hit the upright with a penalty kick, Kirkby was up to claim the rebound and Will Darby secured a try wide out. Then Binns levelled the score with a 50th-minute penalty, only for Saunders to grab a second try.

Once again it was Binns in the act with another penalty, but with Otley looking to snatch the game careless passing allowed scrum half Phil Reed to intercept and race in from halfway, the conversion putting his side eight points ahead as the clock reached 80 minutes. Mark Billington was put over, but it was the last move of the game.
