Gretna 3, Guiseley 1: Guiseley's hopes of reaching the promotion play-offs in UniBond Division One suffered a blow on Saturday when they were beaten at Gretna, one of their main rivals for the three places.

The Scottish side mounted a second-half comeback to overturn a game that appeared to be out of their control at the break.

However, there was some good news for Guiseley when it emerged that tonight's opponents Harrogate Town, held to a draw by second-placed Ossett Town, had won the championship.

With the West Riding County Cup Final coming up on Wednesday, against struggling Farsley Celtic, the North Yorkshire outfit might be tempted to rest a few first-teamers for tonight because they have already landed half of the double they are chasing.

"Tonight's game doesn't mean much to them now," said Guiseley director and press spokesman Stuart Allen. "They got the point they needed, but it is an important match for us.

"We are not out of the play- off picture altogether, it's not goodnight Vienna. I know Harrogate will be on a high but they won't do us any favours. We might just catch them on an off night if they have one eye on Wednesday's final."

Ryan Senior gave Guiseley a 1-0 lead to take into the break when he netted a left-foot shot on the half-hour. But Guiseley should have compiled a commanding lead before half-time.

Gretna keeper David Matheson, a former Scotland under-21 international, made a stunning save from a Nick Hay header.

Senior shot over the bar three minutes into the second period but a minute later Mark Dobie levelled for Gretna. A touch of fortune put the Scot's in front when Nick Galloway's 61st-minute wind-assisted corner curled into the top corner.

They sealed their win when Dave Mawson netted the third after a breakaway in the 71st minute.
