Goole 2, Eccleshill United 0: Eccleshill hit the buffers as they ran into an on-form Goole side who completed their seventh victory in eight games.

Eccleshill were buoyant after a 4-1 derby success over Liversedge in midweek but having reached lower mid-table safety, their depleted squad succumbed to two second half goals at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds.

There was definitely no pleasure for United and their joint manager Martin Pattison who said:"We can certainly play better, overall I think they deserved their win. We tried to pass it around but the surface wasn't the best for that type of game and they got at us. They had a lad who could hurl it 40 yards from a throw-in.

"We played the ball about well but we didn't really create anything at all. If we had been at full strength we could have given them a run for their money." United were without midfield general Paul Newsome, who began his five week suspension on Saturday, skipper and centre-back Richard Wilson and leading scorer Karl Cochrane.

Goole won the game with two strikes in just four second half minutes shortly after the hour mark.

Darren Young opened the scoring with a fierce shot that flew into Stuart Wilkinson's net.

The United keeper then made a single error to blot an otherwise solid display.

He called for his defence to leave a through ball but failed to gather it and Andy Baldwin netted.
