A garage owner was injured when a robber clubbed him on the head with a gun during an armed raid.

Five men wearing balaclavas threatened the owner of the Harold Garage on Huddersfield Road, Low Moor, with a handgun at lunchtime yesterday.

The victim, in his 40s, was forced to open his safe but the attackers only took money from the till.

As they were leaving the garage, one of the robbers struck the owner on his head with the gun.

He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary and treated for head wounds.

Police said his injuries were not serious.

The Harold Garage, opposite the Harold Working Men's Club, is a filling station with vehicle restoration specialists J&B Restorations on the same compound.

A police armed response unit rushed to the scene and carried out an area search.

The masked men fled in a Rover 618 which had been stolen from Rawdon on April 12.

Its registration number is S432 DBB.

The public have been warned not to approach the car but should ring the police immediately on (01274) 376659 if they spot it.

Any witnesses to the robbery or who saw anything suspicious at about 12.30pm in the area should also contact police.
