City player of the year Andy Myers today vowed: We'll make amends for letting the fans down this season.

Myers was the runaway winner of the prestigious Telegraph & Argus/JCT 600 award, which is voted for by supporters.

The ultra-consistent defender polled more than double the total of runner-up Stuart McCall in his final Bantams campaign. Top-scorer Eoin Jess finished third.

Myers said: "It's a massive honour for me, there's nothing better than being appreciated by the fans. Normally the plaudits go to the people who bang in the goals not try to stop them so it means a lot.

"I just wish the season had been a lot better for the team because it's been a big disappointment. When you look at the quality in the dressing room, you wonder why we haven't done a lot better.

"You see teams like Norwich up there going for the play-offs and we played them off the park. We are kicking ourselves."

Fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that Myers doesn't follow previous player of the year winners Peter Beagrie and Benito Carbone out the club the next season.

He said: "I've got a year left on my contract and as far as I'm concerned I'm a Bradford City player. I don't listen to any of the rumours, I just want to do my best for this club.

"We've got a lot to prove next season because we've let people down. We owe it to the supporters as well as ourselves to make a real go of it.

"Nobody can put a finger on where it all went wrong but the players are as disappointed as anyone. The challenge for all of us is to put that right next season."

City are giving a trial to Nottingham Forest centre-half Philip Haigh in tonight's reserve game against Manchester City at Odsal.

Haigh, 19, captained the Forest academy side to the Dallas Cup in Texas recently but has not appeared for the first team.

Iceland international Thordur Gudjonsson will have another chance to catch the eye after scoring for the second string at Blackburn last week.

Law said: "I haven't really spoken to his agent yet because we need to have another look at him. It's just a process of looking at different players who are out of contract in the summer and seeing if they are worth taking.

"It has worked out with Tom Kearney from Everton and we will keep on looking."

CITY RESERVES: Worsnop, Brodie, Morgan, Lee, Haigh, Gudjonsson, Locke, Penford, Grant, Forrest, Sharpe. Subs: Bentham, Sanasy, Long, Swift, Prudhoe.
