Sheffield United will head the queue for Stuart McCall when he is up for grabs in the summer.

Blades boss Neil Warnock is a long-time admirer of the City legend and sees his experience as crucial for bringing on the Bramall Lane youngsters.

Player/coach Keith Curle is also out of contract at the end of the season and is expected to move on, leaving a vacancy for an old head to help both on and off the field.

McCall could be put off by the uncertainty surrounding Warnock following last month's mass brawl against West Brom. The Football Association are still deciding on any charges although it is understood the United manager has been told his job is safe for now.

A cluster of lower-division clubs will fight for the signature of the Bantams skipper, who finishes at Valley Parade with his testimonial game on April 28.

Third Division play-off hopefuls Scunthorpe have already expressed an interest and McCall's former City team-mate Peter Beagrie believes he still has plenty to offer.

Scunthorpe captain Beagrie said: "Stuart will have no problems getting a contract. A lot of things are made about age but he has so many quality and if he decides to drop a level, I can see him playing another couple of years.

"With Stuart you are going to get a guaranteed performances. He's got great leadership qualities allied with his football ability and he has amassed so much football knowledge.

"I think there will be a mass exodus from Bradford this year. Their season has been a bit fractious and they have to build again.

"But Stuart is going out now as one of the star performers in the last 10-12 games. He's proved one of the mainstays and earned his place on merit not just for his name.

"And while he still possesses that burning passion for the game then clubs will be interested in his services."

Former City striker John Hendrie, who is chairman of McCall's testimonial committee, said: "As any ex-pro knows, you have to play as long as you can.

"Stuart Pearce looked like he was going to jack it in five years ago but he carried on and took it one season at a time. It's the same with Nigel Winterburn.

"Stuart McCall is that type of player who can go on yet and while he is still doing the job he shouldn't stop."
