Horsforth students have raised more than £1,500 towards a young persons' unit at Martin House Hospice.
The seven second year business students from Park Lane College had to establish their own company as part of the Graduate Enterprise Scheme at Park Lane College in Horsforth. They called themselves 'Stream' and sold handmade scarves and bags over Christmas at trade fairs. Afterwards they decided to donate all profits to a local charity that supports young people.
Pauline Bowman, a member of the Martin House fund
raising committee, was
delighted to receive the cheque for £1575. She said: "We were very touched that students of that age should think to do something for those of a
similar age. It's extremely thoughtful and caring of them."
Martin House has looked after more than a thousand children and their families since it opened in 1997.
However, as the children got older it was decided they would need somewhere more adult.
As a result, on Valentine's Day last year a fund was started to raise £2 million pounds for a teenage unit with six beds.
The money from the Park Lane students means £1.9 million has been raised, so the unit will be ready for its first occupants in July this year.
