The first competition in the Airedale and Wharfedale Crown Green Bowling Association calender took place on Sunday when the Guyson International Trophy was staged at Ilkley Bowling Club, a superb setting for this very popular early season competition.
The weather was kind to start with, the first round played in warm spring
sunshine. Games worthy of note were Mike Upton and Roy Cooper, a replay of the final three years ago, with Mike the winner this time.
Eric Robinson was beaten by Harry Wise to go through to the quarter- finals, and Carole Wright so nearly beat Ronnie Bowdin who then went from strength to strength and powered into the final to meet none other than Roman Hrabar who has made this trophy his own over many years.
He had won for the last two years and was looking for the hat-trick. Roman won 21-5 to win his third consecutive Guyson final.
The Trophy was presented by Airedale and Wharfedale's new president Ian Forder, who thanked Ilkley bowling club for their hospitality, and would look forward to many more years of them staging this competition.
