A Texan preacher has raised more than £7,000 for three Shipley Methodist churches by running his debut London Marathon at the age of 68.

The Reverend Ron Morris was raising money to enable improvements to be carried out at Hall Royd, Wrose and Crag Road Methodist churches.

The former college basketball player, who came out of retirement and travelled to England to take on the ministry of the churches until September, ran the 26-mile course in 5hrs 43mins.

Mr Morris's coach and running partner, 65-year-old retired accountant Jim Parrish, of Baildon, finished in the same time.

Mr Morris has raised more than £1,000 for schemes in Africa - where he spent more than 30 years working as an accountant with the Government's Commonwealth Development Corporation - run by the Methodist Relief and Development Fund.
