Mr Emilio Lanfranchi, factory manager at Silvio's Ltd, bakers and confectioners, is to retire at the end of May. The firm has three shops in Bradford and the business took its present name when it was taken over by Mr. Lanfranchi's brother, Silvio, more than half a century ago. Silvio, now aged 77, now lives in retirement in Wimbourne, Sussex, and when Emilio leaves it will end the family link with the firm.

When the new yellow "anti-dazzle" electric lights from Moorend, Cleckheaton, to the Heckmondwike boundary were switched on for the first time last night the benefits to motorists was obvious, but the curious "complexion" given to pedestrians was not so pleasantly commented upon.
