A special event is being organised to raise money to send a young girl with cancer to Disney World in America.

Jessica Bell, 11, from Cullingworth, was diagnosed with Birkett's Lymphoma on February 23.

Her mother Angela said: "She was in a lot of pain and is being very brave. She was very poorly and is a spunky kid.

"She's being treated with chemotherapy at St James's and it's really draining for her. She'll have to have at least nine months intensive chemotherapy and then, if everything works out for the best, she'll have maintenance treatment.

"Otherwise, we'll have to start all over again. Staff at the Five Flags have planned a fundraising night for her, which is really kind."

Staff at the hotel decided to raise enough money to send the family - Jessica has a nine-year-old brother Tim - on a fantastic holiday to Disney World.

The fundraising night, in its early stages of planning, is scheduled for June 7 and will include a disco, live entertainment and a raffle and auction.

The line-up features local duo John and Angie Under the Covers and DJ Nigel Reeday. They already have a Pool cue signed by Keighley's World Pool champion Chris Melling and are hoping to secure more signed sports memorabilia for the auction and many other items.

Organiser Tracy Cryer said: "We are hoping to get lots of support for this event because it's for such a good cause.

"We would welcome the donation of items for the auction from local businesses or any financial support."
