The Telegraph & Argus Bradford Can... Cancer Research Appeal was given a boost last night with a special charity premiere of new comedy drama About a Boy.
The event at Cineworld in Bradford drew in cinemagoers keen to do their bit to help fight the war on cancer.
Manager Fazal Mahmood said several tickets for the screening were bought on the night.
"People have been ringing up asking about it. There's been quite a lot of interest," he said.
"People seem very determined to do their bit for the Bradford Can...Appeal. It's the first charity screening we've had and we're planning to do more."
The Cineworld screening of About a Boy, starring Hugh Grant, followed its national premiere in London earlier this week.
Ruth Asquith-Brown, from Hunsworth, was keen to see the film, which was screened eight days in advance of its general release. "I've wanted to see it for a while and when I heard about this charity screening it seemed like a good opportunity to raise money for a good cause at the same time," she said.
Susan Clayton, of Oakenshaw, said: "I'm very much behind the Bradford Can...Appeal. Everyone knows someone who's been affected by cancer so it's an appeal we should all be supporting. The film was excellent."
All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the £1 million Bradford Can...Cancer Research Appeal which is raising money to fund cancer research at Bradford University and to fund trials of anti-cancer drugs at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
