MIKE BRADLEY is the only local challenger in the Clenmuir Club Professional Championship.
Mike, professional at Keighley Golf Club is taking part in the North East regional qualifying round of the competition on Monday April 29 at Strensall near York.
There will be a field of almost 60 players at York Golf Club, with the top 13 going through to the final at Saunton near Barnstable in June.
Successful players will have the opportunity to pick of valuabl;e points for next year's PGA Cup - the club pros' version of the Ryder Cup - between Britain and Ireland and the USA, which is to be held in America next May.
Winner of the Glenmuir final will pick up a cheque for £10,000 with the regional winners getting £250 and a cut glass trophy.
Bingley St Ives Golf Club is to host the revival of the Bradford & District Ladies Golf Championships, with Re-New Windows of Cleckheaton sponsoring the tournament.
Representatives from clubs within the area have been chosen to form a committee to run the championship, which will be taking place on July 24, 25 and 26, 2002, for all golfers with a handicap of 30 and below.
The chairman of the committee, Carol Firth of Bingley St Ives, said she was delighted that the championship was to be revived after being cancelled two years ago.
"I am extremely grateful to the sponsors Re-New Windows of Cleckheaton for their invaluable help in bringing this about, and am also pleased that Bingley St Ives Golf Club is to be the host, as the course is a very good challenge to all levels of golfer," she said.
