PAUL Pethybridge faces an anxious wait to hear if his 65 is accepted as the new course record at Skipton Golf Club.
It is undoubtedly the lowest score ever recorded on the course off the medal tees - but may not be recognised as the record because winter rules were in operation, allowing competitors to lift, clean and place their ball on the fairway.
"If the decision was Skipton's then I think the club would recognise it officially, but we are consulting the Bradford Union," said competition secretary Colin Chapman.
"There may be a ruling about it, but it was a hell of a knock and I think most of the club would recognise it as the record, placing or not."
It would be a shame if the score is deemed unofficial as the first competition of the season off the medal tees is always seen as particularly challenging after the relative comfort of the forward tees during the winter.
The existing record, of 66, is held jointly by Chris Wright and Ben Mallinson.
