Every week for the last six months, up to 30 people have made a 140-mile round trip just to shop in Bradford. They come from Morecambe on a special coach service - and the trips are so popular that the operators have started a "shoppers' season" from October to April when the resort is quiet.

Thieves who broke into the Adolphus Street railway goods depot canteen, Bradford, helped themselves to a large bowl of rice pudding and a quantity of cake, then slept on two overalls and finally made off with two 1lb packets of tea. The boiler house door had been forced open and tools taken. An unsuccessful attempt was made to force the double doors of the canteen.
