Guiseley 0, Stocksbridge 2: Guiseley's outside chance of reaching the play-offs in UniBond One slithered away from them along with all three points as Stocksbridge PS eased their own fears of the drop with a comfortable win.

Under pressure early on, Guiseley settled to win territorial advantage, though they never really troubled the visitor's keeper.

Then Stocksbridge grabbed the lead just before the half hour, out of the blue, and never looked back.

When the ball fell to Tom Jones, the midfielder was fully 35 yards from goal and Guiseley were back in numbers.

He let fly with a low shot that zipped past the statuesque home defence.

Keeper John Lamb got a late sight of it and could do nothing to prevent the ball from entering the net. A couple of long-range efforts from joint leading scorer Ryan Senior and a 16-yard shot from Pete Sumner were all the home side could muster.

The visitors doubled their lead just into time added on. Substitute Russell Green drilled a low ball across the Guiseley area to Paul Jackson and he beat Lamb with a lob. The ball hit the underside of the bar and bounced up into the roof of the net.

"We didn't compete at all and that was the disappointment for me," said player manager Neil Parsley. "Take nothing away from Stocksbridge, they wanted the points and battled for them."

A postponed fixture in the middle of winter sees Parsley and his men heading for the reverse fixture in South Yorkshire tomorrow and the boss is demanding a better showing from his team.

"We are out of the play-off frame now but I don't want the last three games to turn into a long end of season wind down," said Parsley.
