More than 200 anti-fascist campaigners marched through Bradford last Saturday in an attempt to counter the National Front's county election challenge. Traffic was held up as the marchers, from Asian and left-wing groups, made their way from Manningham to the city centre, but no road congestion was reported.

The Countess of Dudley, whose death is reported today, was the former stage star Gertie Millar, born in Bradford. She last appeared on the stage in Bradford in October 1917, when she was at the head of a variety bill at the Alhambra.
Prior to that she had made several appearances in musical comedy at the Theatre Royal, and she had been in pantomime at the Prince's in her early days, when she played the part of the principal girl.
