Addingham 5

Addingham moved five points clear of second placed Beckwith-shaw with this comfortable win on Tuesday evening.

Having put six past Spa on Saturday theomens were good and Addingham put the game out of reach with a fine firs thalf display.

Paul Marriot gave a fine virtuoso performance following his long lay of with knee ligament damage.

With a strong tail wind behind them Addingham penned Spa back and took the lead early on when Barrow pulled down Cummings 'long pass before scoring.

.Phill Smith then tested the keeper and Si Collins also forced a great save. With Spa unable to get out of their own half it was no surprise when Paul Marriot made it 2-0.

With the two-goal cushion Addingham began to play some wonderful football, forcing chance after chance. Phil Smith led the centre back a merry dance before being felled in the box, Barrow made no mistake with the penalty to give the visitors an unassailable lead.

Steve Perkins then set up the fourth. He curled in a fine far post cross that Smithson controlled instantly before firing home.

Addingham rested Parker and Barrow with Saturday's League cup semi-final in mind.

Galasso and Kernick were given chance to stake a claim for a start next time out. Nolan in the Spa goal deserved credit for a superb second -half display that would have led to double figures had it not been for his determined efforts.

With 30 minutes left Cummings was rested in place of Ridley and it was his superb ball that set up the fifth. From 25 yards out he curled a low ball in behind the defence that begged to be attacked, Kernick duly obliged but his shot was blocked. The ball fell to Smithson who fired home from eight yards out.

Spa pulled back a late consolation goal as Parry's cross deflected past the otherwise rarely troubled Dobson but it was too little too late.

l This Saturday Addingham take on Premier League Kirby Malzeard in the League Cup semi-final. Kick-off at Addingham at 3pm, players meet at 2pm.

Spa Athletic 2

Addingham continued their quest for promotion with a somewhat edgy display over lowly Spa Athletic. Having taken over at the top with the victory on Thursday night Addingham knew this was another must win game, but Spa's recent form including a fine win at the then leaders Beckwithshaw meant they were not to be underestimated.

Once again the lack of recent rain meant the pitch was unbearably hard and uneven and with Spa in confident mood following an 8-2 victory last Saturday this was to make for a very tricky afternoon for Addingham.

With the half drawing to a close Addingham took an undeserved lead, Si Collins well struck free-kick ricocheted around the box before Sergio Galasso pounced to tap home.

Addingham's joy was short lived as Spa restored parity with their next attack, Parry heading home from a corner.

The second-half was a different story, Addingham began to pass better and deal with surface, combined with a renewed vigour following a half-time dressing down they began to create chance after chance.

Jon Cummings curled a looping ball to the far edge of the box, Smithson followed its flight superbly and smashed an unstoppable volley.

With Spa on the back foot Addingham went for the jugular, Ridley battled to win possession in midfield and fed Barrow, who skinned three defenders he drilled his shot low across the 'keeper into the far corner. Spa responded well and pulled one back. Addingham were not to be denied and killed off the threat almost instantly. Barrow was felled and he picked himself up to strike the spot kick home. With a two goal cushion Addingham began to relax and play their best football of the game. Barrow again turned provider unselfishly squaring to Smithson. Parker netted the next.

Addingham head the table by two points with three league games to play.
