BRONTE wANDERERS clinched the Division One title with a 2-0 victory over the Shepherds Arms.
The win over the Lancashire club followed a 2-1 mid-week victory over Bradley. In Saturday's game Bronte started well and took an early lead through Rye Bailey. The Colne side battled hard but even with a one goal lead Bronte looked comfortable.
The second half saw Ian Maude carried off with a broken arm but Bronte continued to dominate and Bailey made it 2-0. to their credit Shepherds battled hard, but it was Bronte's day as they secured the title.
It was the first time in the league's history that a club's second team has won the trophy which was won by their first team the previous season.
In the Silentnight Premier Division Cross Hills had to play a weak team and were no match for champions-elect Skipton Bulldogs. It was just 2-0 to Dogs at half time, but the second half saw Cros Hills run out of steam.
Bulldogs showed why they are looking to retain their title by scoring five further goals.
Dogs went on to clinch their third successive title by beating Grassington 2-0 on Monday.
Oxenhope still hope to finish in second place and took maximum points from their meeting with Grassington United on Saturday. Both sides worked hard to play attacking football with the Dales side taking an early lead until Andrew Hawkins equalised in the second period.
Oxenhope enjoyed the luxury of missing a penaly before hitting top form with two goals from Steve Potts putting them in the driving seat.Although Grassington pulled on back the Worth Valley side never looked like losing.
Lothersdale completed their Divison One campaign with a 3-1 victory over Cowling.
A host of defensive mistakes and missed chances saw Cowling concede three goals and their only stike came from an Alastair McEwan penalty.
In the Devonshire Carpets Division Two Cup Final Sutton put up a brave fight against Barrowford United but went down to a 3-1 defeat.
They battled out an end-to-end game in the first with Barrowford scoring first and Daniel Newton equalising for Sutton.
It was anybody's match in the opening stages of the second half as both sides missed chances before the Lancashire club took the lead and added a killer thidjust before the final whistle. But credit must go to Sutton who kept battling to the end.
Bronte Wanderers look to complete a league and cup double next week when they take on Barnoldswick United in the final fo the Devonshire Carpets Cup. The game is being played at Gargrave on Thursday (May 2) with the kick off at 6.30pm.
