Stuart McCall will have to be on top form in his testimonial tomorrow - or risk spending the second half on the bench!

McCall is bracing himself for an emotion-charged finish when former team-mates from City and Rangers meet at a packed Valley Parade.

But there is no chance of the Bantams legend going through the motions for his party. His former Everton boss Walter Smith, who is taking charge of the Rangers team, will see to that.

McCall intends to play the first half in City colours and the second for Rangers before donning the Claret and Amber one last time with ten minutes to go.

But Smith has jokingly warned McCall to play well enough to justify going straight on for the opposition. McCall said: "I'm under pressure to perform even in my testimonial match. I told Walter that I planned to play for Rangers in the second half and he said that it was his decision not mine.

"Walter was going to monitor my first-half performance for Bradford before he'd put me on his team. Otherwise I might only be a substitute!"

McCall will have other eyes to impress on his Bantams swansong. Sheffield United head the queue of clubs vying for his services.

He is not the only available player on display tomorrow. Others like Gareth Whalley, Paul Gascoigne, Andy Goram, Don Goodman and Dean Windass could be in the market for new clubs.

McCall said: "There are a great many of us looking for teams so it's going to be more like a trial game. I hear there are about 20 scouts in the crowd so we've got to do the business.

"I can promise the supporters that it's going to be a fantastic game. These sort of occasions really suit the flair players and I'm sure people like Gazza and Peter Beagrie will love to show their skills.

"Gazza has phoned me three times this week to say he'll be playing. And I'm sure he will have a few tricks up his sleeve.

"It's going to be such a special afternoon. For the last two weeks I've been humbled by all the cards and mail that have been sent in from fans and it's really beginning to hit me now.

"I've had my last home game against West Brom and then Walsall last week was my final league game. But this one really is it, a proper farewell, and it will be incredibly emotional.

"We've had a hugely disappointing season but this is a great way for me to finish among so many friends on the pitch and in the stands."

Chris Waddle misses the game because he is playing in the FA Umbro Sunday Cup final at Villa Park.
