Pat Simpson's son Ian laughed when he found out his mum was spending her retirement entering endless wordsearch competitions.
But it was Pat who was all smiles today as she took delivery of a brand new top of the range car.
The special edition Mini One - a prize from a wordsearch magazine competition - was the second major prize the 63-year-old Otley mum has scooped in less than a month.
Pat and her husband Peter, of Lisker Avenue, were still celebrating winning a week's holiday every year until 2069 when they learned of their latest success.
The holiday prize - which can be taken at exotic locations around the globe - had also been won from a wordsearch competition in a magazine.
Today the couple - whose previous biggest win was a 50p voucher off the price of a pork pie - toasted their success.
And Pat said it showed the many hours poring over crossword books had paid-off.
"I had retired from my job at Leeds University and I thought I had to do something that would keep my brain active," she said. "After we had done all the cleaning-up and decorating, I started doing lots of wordsearches and crosswords.
"When I got the phone call about the Mini, I thought it was a bit of a joke because my son had been laughing at the fact I was doing all these wordsearches. I didn't believe it was true until we got the insurance documents through the post.
"I have never really won anything before, so it is absolutely incredible, isn't it? I just can't believe this car - it is absolutely lovely. I used to have an old Mini many years ago - but this is a bit different!"
Peter, 68, said the couple are now thinking about where to spend the first of their 67 holidays - and making the most of their long overdue change of luck.
"We do the lottery every week and all we have had is a few £10 prizes, but nothing more than that," he said. "Obviously we're rather pleased that our luck has changed at last."
