Traffic was held up by workers on the Bingley relief road - for ducks.
Amec workmen building the £47.9 road were in a flap when a duck and four ducklings tried to cross Bingley Road on a wing and a prayer, near Cottingley Bar traffic lights.
The workers downed tools to halt traffic and guide the feathered family to safety.
Jeff Redmile, of Gilstead, who was sat in traffic at the lights waiting to drive up Cottingley New Road, said: "The ducks had obviously been disturbed and were trying to run away from construction traffic.
"The workers were running around in their hard hats trying to guide them off the road. It was a comical sight but it was nice to see them doing their bit."
Carley Scott, Amec's liaison manager, said: "We hope to cause as little disruption as possible for motorists - and wildlife - during the construction of the road."
