Museums in the Spen Valley will be doing their bit to mark Museums Month - a national celebration of museums and heritage - with a range of events, workshops, talks and children's activities throughout May.
Celebrating the Jubilee is the theme of the month or events. In addition, the museums are running a family trail on Kings and Queens through History.
Each museum has posed a question and visitors have to answer just two correctly to be included in a prize draw, the winner of which will receive £30 of vouchers to spend in any Kirklees museum shop. Events range from enjoying the dawn chorus and the spring flowers at Oakwell Hall Country Park in Birstall to having a go at patchwork and handling objects from ancient Egypt.
Two special events have been organised and involve members of the Kirklees Community History Service's Collections Team.
Collection assistant Katina Bill will be explaining how the fashion world and ordinary families coped during World War Two, in an illustrated talk call Rationed Fashion at Red House Museum in Gomersal, on Saturday.
Then on Sunday, May 26, collections manager John Rumsby will be at Oakwell Hall to help people in Unearthing the Past by identifying mystery objects they have uncovered. He will be joined by Dave Weldrake of the West Yorkshire Archaeological Service.
Information on theses and other events during the month - along with details of how to enter the family draw - will be contained in a special Museums Month brochure available soon from the museums and other Kirklees outlets.
