WHARFEDALE faced their final game of the season last Saturday when they travelled to Pudsey Conservative Club to take on the Leeds One squad at both billiards and snooker.
The Snooker team needed maximum points to have any chance of avoiding relegation and even then other results had to work out in their favour. The Leeds team were too strong and they outplayed Wharfedale to win by five frames to one, Andy Blamire being the only player to win a frame. This result confirms that Wharfedale will be playing in Division B next season.
The Wharfedale Billiards team also needed maximum points to have any chance of becoming champions. Their win over Leeds by four points to three meant that for the second season running they finished in second place.
Despite winning 11 games out of 12 and Wharfedale captain Steve Crosland remaining unbeaten throughout, main rivals Huddersfield proved to be the more consistent team in depth and retained their title. Scores:
Snooker - A Trigg 2 (66, 85), R Brooke 0 (47, 37); D Watson 1 (45, 75), A Blamire 1 (62, 36); G Cassidy 2 (86, 56), M Parker 0 (20, 14).
Billiards - P Aldcroft 197, R Haigh 200; D Tate 200, D Richardson 109; D Barker 116, S Crosland 200.
