Exeter 32, Otley 14;
OTLEY used the wind intelligently in the first-half to match Exeter and it was not until the final quarter that they surrendered control.
Otley had a terrible start. A turnover direct from the kick-off created an opportunity for Exeter scrum-half Richard John to scamper over for what was a simple try.
Otley soon pulled back the deficit with a penalty from Simon Binns and edged in front with a try from Peter Curtis following a drive from a line-out.
Exeter regained the lead when they took a tap penalty and drove to Otley's line. From the resultant scrum John scored his second try of the afternoon.
Penalties by Simon Binns either side of half-time gave Otley a 14-10 advantage before the Exeter pack took control in the final quarter and gave Chris Malone the opportunity to kick a penalty.
Malone then created overlaps for winger Piran Tretheway to score wide out and for Richard John to complete his hat-trick.
No 8 Richard Butler then scored his 16th league try of the season for Exeter and Malone completed the scoring with the conversion.
Otley have thus completed their National League Division One programme with 11 wins from 26 games for a mid-table finish.
The division was won by Rotherham with a magnificent 120 points with Worcester second with 106 and Exeter third with 91.
They were followed by Coventry with 82, London Welsh with 69, Bedford with 68, Otley with 56, Birmingham with 52, Wakefield with 47, Rugby with 47, Moseley with 45, Manchester with 36, Henley with 33 and Bracknell with 26. Otley scored 601 points and conceded 675. Rotherham were left at the top of the table and wondering if they would fulfill the criteria for promotion.
