Trafford 1, Guiseley 4: In a match that had little at stake for both sides Guiseley punished a hapless Trafford with four good goals. Lacking prolific scorer Ryan Senior, Kevin Newhouse came in at no 9 and Danny McCartney slotted in at right-back in place of injured manager Neil Parsley.
Before a sparse crowd Trafford suffered a blow in the very first minute when centre-back Chris Houghton left the field and was replaced by substitute Peter Weston. Dave Henry signalled Guiseley's early intent by hitting a post in the fourth minute. Mark Stuart then tapped a free-kick to Ian McLean who shot just over from the edge of the area.
The Trafford forwards then put John Lamb under pressure as he dropped a high ball but the home team failed to take advantage. At the other end Guiseley's leading scorer Mark Stuart jinked his past two defenders and waltzed round the 'keeper only to see his acute angled shot cleared off the line by Matt Wright.
Trafford then hit the bar before Guiseley got their just reward, Dave Henry sweeping the ball in at the far post in the 25th minute to be followed two minutes later by a well taken goal by Nicky Hey, who brushed off two markers to plant a powerful shot past Allison
In the opening minutes of the second period Trafford spurned two good chances, and should have been made to rue these misses as Stuart's corner was headed back across goal by Simon Trevitt to find Nicky Hey on the dead ball line. Instinctively, Hey back-heeled the ball but none of his colleagues was following up for what would have been a certain goal.
Newhouse remedied matters on the hour, as, with Trafford vainly appealing for off-side, he calmly lobbed the 'keeper to put Guiseley 3-0 up. Peter Sumner then brought a reflex save from Allison. Trafford's consolation goal came in the 75th minute from Matt Wright whose free-kick evaded everybody and finished up in the net.
This spurred Trafford on to perhaps their best spell of the game as they scented another goal, but it was the mercurial Stuart, who 12 yards out pulled down a cross with his right foot and rifled in an unstoppable shot with his favoured left foot for Guiseley's fourth. Dave Henry then hit a post.
Guiseley play their last match of the season at Ashton United on Friday. The Reserves entertain Northwich on Saturday (11am) and on Tuesday entertain Altrincham (7.45pm).
