HIGH winds put the Otley opening of a traditional circus back a day this week.
Gale force winds meant Bobby Roberts Circus was unable to put up its big top for the planned first day on Monday.
But by Tuesday, the winds had calmed down, the top went up opposite Stephen Smiths garden centre, Otley Road, and the crowds went in.
The circus, which has been going for 55 years, prides itself as a traditional family circus with clowns and acrobats - and no large animals, just horses and dogs.
Moira Roberts said: "Unfortunately, we had to cancel on Monday. It was too windy to put the big top up and we can't take chances with the public."
She added they were very proud of their show.
"We've been travelling for 55 years and pride ourselves on being a traditional circus with nothing to upset anyone.
"We are extremely proud of our animal husbandry and have regular checks by the RSPCA."
Bobby Roberts Super Circus finishes today. Performances are at both 5pm and 7.30pm.
