A Lothersdale girl is to take part in the Great North Run to raise money for charity in October.
Emily Durham, who is running the race with her friend Jenny Baxter, will donate the proceeds from the half marathon to the Liz Dawn Cancer Appeal.
Emily, 19, said: "We are trying to help them reach their £1 million landmark.
"We are organising other fundraising events as well. We are holding a raffle next Wednesday night in the student union."
The PR student from Leeds University has already secured some sponsorship for the race from White Rose Garage in Cross Hills, after spending some time there on work experience.
Managing director Frank Greenway said: "We like to give our support to local people through various sporting incentives."
The Volkswagen dealership has sponsored Warren Rochford in the London Marathon and is also involved with both Silsden and Cross Hills football clubs.
Frank and his brother Julian, who is the aftersales manager at White Rose, will also be running in the 13-mile race in October.
Frank added: "I know it's going to be hard work but when it's finished it gives you a great feeling."
The Liz Dawn Cancer appeal was established four and a half years ago and is based at St James' Hospital in Leeds.
