A Keighley school has received a glowing report from Ofsted.

Inspectors who visited Lees Primary School in February have praised the school for what they describe as "very good" improvements since its last inspection in November 1995.

In the report, the inspectors said that the quality of teaching was significantly better and the school provided good value for money.

The report referred to the quality of education provided at the school, which scored above average for standards of English, maths, art and design and well above average in science.

Head teacher Jean Richards said: "We are absolutely delighted.

"This is due to the effort of everybody concerned with the school and we shall continue to work hard to improve our standards."

The report also heaped praise on the head teacher for her leadership and management and on the support of her deputy and staff, who it said formed a strong team and had a positive effect on pupils' achievements.

In a further development, Lees Primary has also been awarded a school achievement award.

The school achievement award, which is given to less than a third of schools in Britain, was set up by the Government to recognise improved standards of pupils and reward the hard work of teachers.
