Businesses in Bradford are being invited to get the most out of the Commonwealth Games by joining the event's international on-line matching service.

The club is being modelled on the highly successful Business Club Australia, formed for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, which brought $30m of inward investment into the country.

With less than 100 days to go until the games begin and just two months before the 2002 Queen's Jubilee Baton passes through the region, organisers of the Commonwealth Business Club are encouraging the district's companies to log-on and register their business or services for free.

It is expected to become the most important web-based tool throughout the Commonwealth, enabling company representatives to meet and create key contacts with other members. The project is backed by Digby Jones, Director General of the Confederation of British Industry, and by former Olympic athlete Roger Black.

Peter Budd, chairman of the Business Club, said: "We expect the Commonwealth Games Business Club to continue long after 2002 and are keen for businesses in Bradford to sign up."

As well as access to the global database of business contacts via the website, members will receive special benefits such as pre-arranged introductions, networking opportunities and the ability to learn more about UK business. It has been initiated by the Commonwealth Economic Benefits (CEB), an organisation set up to promote the economic benefits of the games to the UK.
