Keighley's youth theatre HYT will be scaling new heights this month with its new production Mountain.
Written and directed by artistic director Jon Crossley, the 101st show by HYT tackles what pushes climbers to the boundaries of human endurance and why they expose themselves to high levels of danger.
Members of the cast, accompanied by adults, have even climbed Pen-y-Ghent in north Yorkshire to get an authentic feel for what motivates mountaineers.
The play will be staged at Keighley Arts Factory and will also be accompanied by an art exhibition on the mountain theme. As Jon explained: "The show explores, in an interart production, the origins, mystery, dangers, exhilaration and statistics on mountains and mountaineering.
"Questions you have not imagined are posed and explored as the performance, making use of the large area available, moves around the theatre against spectacular mountain backdrops and culminates in a moving finale."
The drama will be accompanied by live music and original songs, which have become a trademark feature of HYT productions over the years.
Mountain runs from next Thursday to Saturday, May 11 and Thursday, May 16 to Saturday, May 18. All shows begin at 7.30pm.
Tickets priced £4 and £3.50 will be available from the usual contacts or by phoning Trish Herd on 01274 832438.
The ticket price includes a drink and it is hoped that audience members will take the opportunity after the show to meet the cast and view the exhibition. The exhibition is also open weekdays between May 7-17 from 10am-4pm.
