Hemsworth 25
Keighley 16
Keighley ended their season with a disappointing defeat at Hemsworth.
They were forced to make nine changes from the side which began Wednesday's Yorkshire Shield semi-final and with some players playing their third game in four days, there was, understandably, a jaded look about their performance.
Hemsworth were soon ahead when Johnny Harrison's attempted clearance kick was charged down, allowing hooker Barry Spencer an unopposed run to the line, Simon Frow adding the conversion.
A long run out of defence by Keighley wingman Chris Watts then took play deep into the Hemsworth half from where Harrison landed a neat drop goal after the Keighley pack stole the ball at a scrum on the home side's put in.
At this stage, Keighley were competing well, with wingman Ieuan Morgan being tackled close to the line after a strong touch line dash, but Hemsworth began to show more appetite for the game and before half time rocked Keighley with tries by Jason Keith and Sean Rowley, with Frow tagging on a penalty goal.
Two penalty goals by Harrison early in the second half gave Keighley heart, and with a stiff breeze at their backs they began to look capable of stealing the points.
A powerful burst by No. 8 Peter Schofield almost brought him a try and forwards Paul Salmon and Leigh Sugden punched holes in the Hemsworth defence.
Against the run of play, however, the home side increased its lead when forward Paul Jennings completed a spirited raid on a tired Keighley defence with a good try.
Skipper Johnny Harrison boosted Keighley's tally with a late try to which he added the conversion, after dummying through after a quickly taken tapped penalty.
