HIGH-POINT of the Craven football knockout season is reached tonight when Skipton LMS face Rimington in the final of the Slater Marchant Cup at Barnoldswick United (6.30)
The name of 'Skipton LMS' has appeared on the trophy only once before when they were winners in 1926, although Skipton British Rail carried off the trophy in 1984.
Rimington have only once before won the trophy, in 1992, and since they are about to celebrate an important milestone in their history, the Craven FA Cup would be an appropriate centre piece for their festivities.
A week ago they were looking to have a double celebration, but those hopes were dashed when their Reserves were beaten 4-1 by Kelbrook Reserves in the final of the Skipton Building Society Norman Pratt Trophy at Barnoldswick, the Kelbrook side retaining the trophy.
Fixtures still in the pipeline include Monday's meeting of Premier Division Cup holders Oxenhope Recreation and Skipton LMS in the Devonshire Carpets Premier Division Cup Final at Cross Hills (6.30).
Oxenhope are beset by injuries and are struggling to raise their regular first team side. LMS will be hoping to be Craven Cup winners by Monday, but a good match is expected.
Both semi-finals in The Northern Plant Hire Challenge Cup failed to be completed on Monday evening. Skipton Bulldogs v Crosshills never got under way, the ground being waterlogged, while Skipton LMS v Embsay started and the score stood at 2-2 in extra-time when the referee had to abandon the match for failing light and torrential rain.
New dates for these matches are Thursday, May 9 (6pm), with the final at Gargrave on Tuesday, May 14.
